A member of the largest class of World War II destroyers, U.S. Navy Fletcher-class destroyer U.S.S. Capps (DD-550), built by Gulf Shipbuilding Corp.,in Chickasaw, Alabama, was launched in May 1942 and commissioned in June 1943.

Designed in 1939, the United States Navy commissioned 175 Fletcher-class destroyers between 1942 and 1944, more than any other class of destroyers.

After career in the U.S. Navy during World War II seeing action in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, U.S.S. Capps went on to a long career in the Spanish navy as Lepanto. Check out our Free Ship Plans page of the U.S.S. Capps and Lepanto.
