Later Spanish Navy Méndez Núñez (D63)

The USS O’Hare, DD 889, was a Gearing class destroyer that launched on June 22, 1945 and commissioned on November 29, 1945. From her shakedown cruise in February of 1946 until 1963 she served in a variety of missions including under the United Nations flag during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. [1]

From 1966 until she was decommissioned in 1973 she served a number of assignments in Vietnam, the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. After she was decommissioned, she was loaned to the Spanish navy, where she was renamed the Méndez Núñez (D63), and sold outright to Spain in 1978. She was decommissioned and scrapped by Spain in 1992.
