Opening a beginner-level plank on bulkhead model

Artesania Latina, one of Europe’s most well known model kit manufacturers, created the 1:50 scale kit of the Virginia pilot boat “Swift” to be an entry level kit for plank-on-bulkhead construction. These kits have been produced in the thousands, and are often available on the second-hand market at far below the suggested retail price.

The ship’s gentle curves and simple two-masted schooner rig should make her a an easier build where the aspiring model shipwright can hone skills necessary to gain before tackling larger, more expensive ship models. Yet, given that it is a learning platform, it still can be used to create a model that would earn a place of pride on any builder’s mantle.
