First Look: Sona Jeweler’s Saw

Of all the tools we use in model shipbuilding, saws seem to be the most underrated. While they do make it easier to remove too much material, so caution is required, for certain applications they are hard to beat.

And one of those applications is the “interior cut,” where the modeler needs to cut a shape from a workpiece without entering from outside the piece. A jeweler’s saw, with its ability to detach and reattach one end of the blade makes it possible to begin a cut through a drill hole without damaging the perimeter of the piece. This Sona jeweler’s saw that we picked up on sale at Model Expo comes with 144 blades in six sizes that will be useful in cutting metal, wood, or plastic.
